Pure Water Producers Raise Wholesale Price to N300 per Bag

The Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) has raised the price of pure water also know as sachet water from 200 to N300 per bag. National President, Clementina Ativie made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday. The decision was unanimously reached during the ATWAP national convention in Abuja. Ativie explained that the increment was due to current prices of material and Nigeria’s economic situation. “The price of sachet water popularly known as pure water is now N300 per bag as the company price. “There will be no extra bag or extra pieces henceforth for wholesale or retail buyers,” she said. The President added that the cost  of  production had gone far beyond what they can bear. She said the new rate would help them to keep up with bills and remain in business. The statement appealed to citizens to be understanding and bear with the association. Buhari jets out to Niger Republic for AU Summit

Naira redesigned for Economic & Security Purpose, not Beauty -Reno Omokri lauds CBN

A socio-political activist, Reno Omokri has said the newly unveiled Naira notes were redesigned for economic and security reasons and not for beauty. He also said that the Dollar is powerful because of its value and not beauty. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, launched the redesigned Naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. DAILY POST reported that mixed reactions have trailed the unveiling, with many showing dissatisfaction with the new Naira notes’ appearance, while some have taken to social media to make jokes with them. However, Omokri has come out to criticize those who had shown dissatisfaction with the appearance of the Naira notes. Court Orders INEC To Resume Voters Registration

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately resume the continuous voters registration (CVR) until 90 days before the 2023 general elections. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, also directed the INEC to ensure that eligible Nigerians are not deprived the opportunity to have the voter’s card for the forthcoming poll. Justice Ekwo held that it was the constitutional responsibility of the electoral umpire to make adequate provision for the exercise in accordance with the Nigerian laws. “The case of the plaintiffs succeeds on merit,” the judge declared. NAN reports that Anajat Salmat and three others had sued INEC as sole defendant in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022. In the originating summons filed before the court, the plaintiffs argued that INEC cannot stop the CVR contrary to the stipulated provisions of the constitution. Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has warned that it is risky to neglect other ethnic groups in leadership consideration in the country, stating that he will not support anybody who believes that other ethnic groups cannot produce the president of Nigeria except them. While chiding the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for propagating the ideals he does not practice, Governor Wike argued that no ethnic group has an exclusive right to be the president of the country. GOVERNOR LALONG ORDERS SECURITY FORCES TO APPREHEND TERRORISTS WHO ATTACKED MAIKATAKO VILLAGE

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has ordered security forces to go after terrorists who attacked Maikatako village in Bokkos Local Government Area leading to the death of 11 persons and others injured.  Governor Lalong who condemned the attack said the killers must be fished out and brought to justice for the dastardly act. Most Nigerian roads are expired, says FERMA

Worried by the condition of Nigeria’s road network, the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has painted a gloomy picture of the roads and highways, saying they have expired, with little or no capacity needed to utilise. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nuruddeen Rafindadi, said some of the roads, regrettably, had exceeded their lifespan. A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has convicted the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa for contempt of court in relation to his agency’s failure to comply with an earlier order of the court. Organ Harvesting: UK Court Moves Ekweremadu’s Trial To Jan 31

No respite yet for the embattled former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, over his trial on alleged organ harvesting case as the Central Criminal Court in London, the United Kingdom, yesterday moved the trial date from May, 2023 to January 31, 2023. According to Channels TV, the Old Bailey agreed that arguments would be heard on the 16th or 19th of December 2022 before the commencement of the trial in January. He was said to be absent in court yesterday, but his wife, who was released on bail in July and Sonia, the couple’s daughter, were present. Ekweremadu’s travails increased barely five days ago, when Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the interim forfeiture of his assets following an ex-parte motion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, subsequently described the court’s ruling as “hasty” and a “selective judgement.”

ASUU FUMES AS FG JUSTIFY REASONS FOR HALF SALARY PAYMENT

The Federal Government has provided an explanation for why it did not pay lecturers employed by  the  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) their full salary. The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment issued a statement, on Saturday, November 5, noting that ASUU members had received a pro-rata payment of their October salaries. According to the statement, pro-rata was used since it is impossible to pay for work that has not been completed. The statement went on to say that  Chris Ngige ,  the honourable minister of labour and employment, never gave the Accountant General of the Federation instructions to pay university professors half wage. Court orders interim forfeiture of 40 assets traced to Ike Ekweremadu

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday gave permission to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to temporarily seize 40 properties traced to Ike Ekweremadu. The order comes as Mr Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, is being held in the United Kingdom for allegedly trying to harvest David Nwamini’s kidney for their ailing daughter. The judge, Inyang Ekwo, handed down the interim forfeiture order for his properties after hearing an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC. An EFCC lawyer, Ibrahim Buba, moved the application for the confiscation of the assets, saying they were suspicious proceeds of crime. The lawyer told the judge that the landed properties comprise 15 in Abuja, 10 in Enugu (Mr Ekweremadu’s home state), one in Lagos, two in the United Kingdom, three in the United States, and nine in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). EFCC, have arrested Kogi State House of Assembly candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Ismaila Yusuf Atumeyi with N326million and $ 140,500 cash. Atumeyi, who is seeking to represent Ankpa 11 Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly was arrested on Sunday, October 30, 2022 alongside one Joshua Dominic, an alleged serial fraudster, in a sting operation at Macedonia Street, Queens Estate, Karsana, Gwarinpa, Abuja. Also arrested in connection with the Fraud is Abdumalik Salau Femi, a former bank employee, who allegedly supplied the inside information that facilitated the attack on the bank by the syndicate.
