ln furtherance of the preparation for the forthcoming Trial Census across all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the National Population Commission has launched an e-recruitment portal for the exercise.

While declaring open the Trial Census recruitment platform at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the Chairman of NPC, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, stated that the e-recruitment became imperative to ensure fairness and transparency in the recruitment process for the Trial Census. He said, “the need to be fair and transparent in the recruitment process has led the Commission to introduce the e-recruitment process and train the officers that will supervise this important census recruitment process.”

Hon. Kwarra, noted that the quality of the recruitment process will reflect on the quality of the data to be collected and ultimately the success of the 2023 census.

He stressed that while a good recruitment exercise will not by itself necessarily guarantee a successful census, a badly conducted recruitment process will inevitably lead to problems and increase the risk of an unsuccessful census.

“The launching of the E-recruitment portal at the headquarters marks the beginning of the online recruitment process whereby Nigerians from all demography and gender can hook onto the website that will be provided by the Commission to fill the online form and get themselves registered to be recruited,” he added.

The Census Manager, Dr. Inuwa Jalingo while making his remarks, disclosed that the e-recruitment portal will first be opened to the applicants residing in the six selected LGAs from the six selected States in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria where there will be the full enumeration of the population, in order to test run and assess the workability of the recruitment process. He further stated that the portal will later be opened to the interested applicants from the remaining 30 States and the FCT to apply.

Dr. Jalingo, however, mentioned that the e-recruitment portal is geo-fenced and the applicants must be in the selected LGAs to be able to apply for the Trial Census exercise.

Meanwhile, the six selected LGAs and States where there will be a full enumeration of the population are;

1. Brass LGA (Bayelsa State) – South-South zone

2. Idemili South LGA (Anambra State) – Southeast zone

3. Imeko-Γ€fon LGA (Ogun State) – Southwest zone

4. Tongo LGA (Adamawa State) – Northeast zone

5. Karu LGA (Nasarawa State) – Northcentral zone

6. Daura LGA (Katsina State) – Northwest zone

The Trial Census shall cover a total of 7,718 Enumeration Areas in the thirty-six States and the FCT. Six LGAs have been selected from six States in the six geo-political zones for full population enumeration while forty-five (45) EAs covering 3 Senatorial districts and 9 LGAs have been selected from each of the thirty-one States and the FCT for the Trial Census.
