Court orders FG to pay Nnamdi Kanu N1bn, recommends political solution

A High Court in Abia State has ordered the Federal Government to pay the sum of N1 billion to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and issue a letter of apology to him. Kanu had approached the Court demanding N5 billion over the invasion of his father’s house by the military on September 10, 2017. In a ruling on Wednesday, according to his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, the Court presided over by Justice Benson Anya stated that the Federal Government violated the IPOB leader’s fundamental rights. The Court also recommended political solution to the agitation for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic championed by IPOB. Kanu’s lawyer made this known in a tweet, saying, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu WINS as Abia High Court rules that the Federal Government violated his fundamental rights. Orders the Federal government to pay N1b to him and issue a letter of apology to him. “Most importantly, the Court recommended political solution to the #Biafran agitation.”

Buhari lifts ban on Twitter After 7 months

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has lifted the suspension on Twitter operations in the country, effective from 12 am, January 13, 2022. After about seven months of suspension, Nigerians can now use Twitter freely again. This was disclosed in a press statement on Wednesday signed by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency and Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Abdullahi. The statement read in part, “The Federal Government of Nigeria directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight, January 13, 2022. “The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.”

Panic In Zamfara NYSC Camp As Bandits Abduct Corps Members

Panic has set in among prospective corps members in Zamfara State following the abduction of some of their colleagues on their way to their orientation camp in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state. Although the police confirmed the abduction of two prospective corps members along the Sheme-Tsafe highway in the state, witnesses said about six others were missing from the incident that occurred on Tuesday. The Tsafe hosts the National Youth Service (NYSC) orientation camp in Zamfara. The police said a joint search and rescue operation was ongoing to rescue the abducted corps members and other victims.
