Honouring the Vanguard of the Sea

CAPTAIN COSMOS NIAGWAN

Honouring the Vanguard of the Sea

From the quiet hills of Shendam, Plateau State, Captain Cosmos Niagwan rose to become one of Nigeria’s respected voices on the oceans — a Master Mariner, ship captain, maritime administrator, and national maritime pioneer.

His journey began with discipline, courage, and the hunger to learn. From his early cadetship with Elder Dempster Line in Liverpool, he sailed through the ranks with excellence, serving as Third Officer, Second Officer, Chief Officer, and eventually taking command as Captain on vessels of the Nigerian National Shipping Line.

Captain Niagwan was not only a man of the sea; he was a builder of maritime systems. His career carried him from the bridge of ships to the boardrooms of maritime administration, where he served in key leadership roles across shipping companies, regulatory institutions, and national maritime assignments.

He represented a generation of Nigerian seafarers who carried the nation’s flag across international waters with pride, professionalism, and dignity. In an era when the sea demanded courage, knowledge, endurance, and character, Captain Niagwan stood tall.

His legacy is more than the vessels he commanded. It is found in the maritime institutions he helped shape, the officers he inspired, and the history he wrote as one of Nigeria’s distinguished indigenous Master Mariners.

Today, we honour Captain Cosmos Niagwan —
a son of Plateau,
a commander of ships,
a servant of the maritime nation,
and truly, a Vanguard of the Sea.

According to the group, Lalong should be punished for bringing the name of Pope and the Catholic Church to disrepute while giving his reasons for accepting to serve as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
