Why Saraki’s Advice Is the Best Option for PDP Right Now

November 13, 2025

By Ayuba Doekyil

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is at a very important point. The party is divided, and many members are not happy with how things are going. That is why the advice given by former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, is very important right now.

On November 12, 2025, Saraki met with the PDP Board of Trustees Reconciliation Team, led by Amb. Hassan Adamu.

During the meeting, he spoke clearly and honestly about what the party must do to fix its problems. His message was simple: the planned PDP National Convention in Ibadan on November 15–16 should be stopped for now, and a Caretaker Committee should be set up instead.

Saraki’s point makes sense. The PDP is currently facing too many court cases and confusion over who has the right to organize the convention.

Some courts have even given conflicting orders. If the party goes ahead with the convention under these conditions, it could lead to more crisis and waste of effort.

Saraki also said something very true, political problems are not solved in courtrooms. They are solved through dialogue, understanding, and peace talks.

If party members keep dragging issues to court, the PDP will only become weaker and more divided.

Setting up a Caretaker Committee will help the party cool down, settle its internal issues, and rebuild unity. It will also restore confidence among members who want to contest future elections.

Right now, many politicians are not sure if it’s safe to contest under the PDP because of all the confusion.

Saraki’s advice is not just about saving the PDP, it’s about saving democracy. When the main opposition party is in crisis, the whole democratic system suffers. Nigeria needs a strong and united PDP to keep the government on its toes.

Let’s be honest: going ahead with the convention now will only make things worse. But taking Saraki’s advice means choosing peace, wisdom, and stability. It’s not too late for the PDP to do the right thing.

Saraki has shown leadership and courage once again. His advice is the best path for the PDP to heal and move forward.

The party should listen, before it’s too late.

August 11, 2022  Concerned Catholics in Nigeria have called for the suspension of Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong for dragging the name of Pope into local politics that has nothing to do with the Church. According to the group, Lalong should be punished for bringing the name of Pope and the Catholic Church to disrepute while giving his reasons for accepting to serve as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. Speaking as a press conference in Abuja addressed by National Convener/President, Dr Ben Amodu, said the concerned Catholics in Nigeria are alarmed that Lalong would elect to throw caution into the wind by dragging the revered Catholic Church into local politics in Nigeria for whatever it is worth. “The reference to the Pope in his statement for accepting to serve as the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council was made in poor taste and a puerile attempt to drag the Catholic Church into a matter that has no bearing with...
