The Plateau State Association United Kingdom (PSA-UK) on Thursday held a virtual meeting with representatives of media organisations in Plateau State, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), where it expressed strong concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
During the session, PSA-UK said killings, abductions, attacks on worshippers and displacement of communities have continued to increase across the country, with Plateau State recording repeated incidents. The group said the situation has now become a national crisis affecting lives, livelihoods and the image of the country.
The association noted recent cases such as the killing of a senior military officer, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, attacks on worshippers in Kwara, and continuous annexation of villages in Plateau as signs that the crisis is growing.
PSA-UK said it supports the Nigerian Armed Forces but urged the military leadership to investigate allegations of compromise and ensure professionalism in all operations. It also called on the Federal Government to take full responsibility for national security, stressing that state governors do not control the military.
The group further appealed to the international community to support Nigeria if the government and security agencies lack the capacity to handle the crisis alone.
The association used the session to restate its solidarity with families of victims, displaced persons and communities living under fear. It urged citizens to hold their leaders accountable and reminded the government that every life lost represents an entire generation wiped out.
PSA-UK called for urgent action to dismantle armed groups, rescue abducted persons and restore public confidence. It also advised Plateau State to strengthen local intelligence and early-warning systems.
The association said it will continue to speak out until peace and justice are restored in Plateau and across Nigeria.
Commendable efforts.
