The Sutton Nigeria Community, in collaboration with Property Clinic UK, successfully hosted a vibrant Nigerian Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Carshalton Boys College. The event brought together members of the Nigerian diaspora, local residents, and friends of Nigeria to mark the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary in grand style.
The celebration was officially declared open by Hon. Bob Dean, Member of Parliament representing Carshalton and Wallington, who commended the Nigerian community for their positive contributions to local development and multicultural cohesion.
In an exclusive interview, MP Bob Dean expressed his admiration and long-standing connection with Nigerians, describing them as “hardworking, resilient, and peaceful people whose values enrich our communities.”
He also emphasized the importance of civic participation, encouraging Nigerians in the UK to take a more active role in politics and community affairs.
“The Nigerian community is a shining example of enterprise and perseverance. I would love to see more of you involved in public service and leadership because your voices and perspectives are invaluable,” he stated.
The event was a true celebration of culture and unity. Guests were treated to an exciting array of Nigerian cuisines, fashion displays, music, and traditional dance performances that showcased the country’s rich heritage.
Attendees enjoyed mouthwatering delicacies such as jollof rice, moi-moi, and puff-puff, prepared by talented chefs. The fashion Display was another highlight, featuring colourful traditional attires from across Nigeria, including vibrant Ankara prints.
Nigerian artists and dancers also delivered thrilling performances that kept the audience entertained throughout the day, while children participated in fun games and flag parades in honour of Nigeria’s independence.
Representatives of the Sutton Nigeria Community EMMANUEL OLUKOTUN CEO PROPERTY CLINIC expressed gratitude to all guests, volunteers, and sponsors for their support in making the celebration a success.
“Our goal was to create an event that unites the community, celebrates our heritage, and encourages collaboration among Nigerians and our host community in Sutton,” said one of the organisers.
The 2025 Nigerian Independence Celebration will be remembered as a day of pride, culture, and togetherness symbolizing the strong bond between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, and the continuing contributions of Nigerians to the social and economic life of the borough.
