President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed his call for religious tolerance among Nigerians, declaring that “hate is not an option for us.”
The President made the statement on Saturday at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos during the funeral service of the late mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Tinubu, who spoke passionately about peaceful coexistence, said religion should never be a source of division but a bridge of understanding and love.
“I inherited Islam from my parents and haven’t changed, but my wife is a pastor. She prays for me, and there’s no conflict. I have never tried to convince her to convert,” he said, noting that his family represents the tolerance Nigeria needs to emulate.
The President urged religious and political leaders to promote mutual respect and understanding, emphasizing that unity in diversity remains Nigeria’s greatest strength.
While consoling Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and his family, Tinubu described the late matriarch as a woman of faith whose life and values continue to inspire those she left behind.
The event, attended by political leaders, clerics, and dignitaries from across the country, underscored the message of harmony and peaceful coexistence that the President has continued to champion.
