The National Body of the Pan Youth Association (PYA) has condemned the recent attacks on Nteng, Bong, Mafi, Gorom, Doop, Kwaki, and Jepmorop communities in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to PYA, Fulani militias invaded the communities between Tuesday, 26th and Thursday, 28th August 2025, leaving many dead, injuring several others, burning houses, churches, shops and food stores, and displacing over 5,000 people.
The attackers also rustled more than 200 cattle, forcing residents to seek refuge in nearby towns like Doemak, Bwall, and Namu.
Eyewitnesses told PYA that the attackers, numbering over 1,000 and armed with guns, machetes, and other weapons, stormed the villages, killing residents and setting homes on fire.
Survivors also reported that more than 5,000 cattle belonging to the militias are now grazing on the farmlands of the displaced natives. Before the attacks, the suspected militias were spotted moving in groups of three on over 50 motorcycles around Jibial and later camping in Fogordep, Bokkos LGA, where they are believed to launch their attacks.
In a statement signed by Saba Tuwagatdong Dabilong, National President of PYA, and Godsend Dashe Thaddeus, National Secretary, the association called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and other stakeholders to urgently deploy more security personnel to Qua’an-Pan.
The Association also urged the government to provide relief materials, establish IDP camps, and conduct operations to dismantle militia camps in Fogordep and Pandam Wildlife Park, which they described as hideouts for terrorists and kidnappers.
PYA further demanded the restoration of infrastructure in the attacked villages to enable displaced persons return home.
The youth body also encouraged the Pan people to take personal security measures by staying vigilant, reporting suspicious movements, travelling in groups, and keeping emergency contacts.
While expressing condolences to families who lost loved ones, PYA stressed that security is a shared responsibility and called for unity among the people in confronting the growing insecurity in the area.
