MY TEAM

I learned a bitter truth many years ago while growing up in a small town called Zakibiam in Benue State. On that street, children would play together as a group. However, due to my disciplined upbringing and strict father, my siblings and I were never allowed to leave the house premises to play with the other children unless they were family friends who came to visit. Little did I know that our inability to join the other children within the neighborhood to play was seen as being pompous by the other kids.

One Saturday, my dad had traveled to the village and my mom wasn't home. I made the daring decision to join some children on the street to play street football. When we formed teams, the goalkeepers were asked to pick their teammates, and to my dismay, nobody chose me. I cried, but nobody consoled me because I was never part of their team. That evening, as I was heading home, Jerry Acholo approached me and said, "Emma, even if you have the ball, if you don't have a team, nobody will play with you."

That phrase has remained etched in my memory for over thirty years. Since then, I have never allowed myself to forget its significance. Everywhere I have studied, worked, or served, I have made sure to build a team of like-minded individuals. Our stories have always been marked by unending success.

Today, I proudly stand with Team Snowyt, a group of individuals who believe in facing challenges head-on, no matter the storm. We understand that the strength of our collective efforts far surpasses what we can achieve individually. Together, we strive for greatness, supporting and motivating each other along the way.
