It is believed that Late General Sani Abacha once said, "government has an interest in every crises situation that exceeds 24 hours". I have heard that a number of times but have never been able to pin that statement to a source. However, I just want to borrow that logic to infer that 'government has SERIOUS interest in any kind of mega oil bunkering that exceeds, 10 days, a month, a year, and even 9 years'. Thanks to Mr. Peter Goandverifyit Obi, an extended investigation has been launched into the bunkering activities in Nigeria's oil rich region. Summarily, there has been a high-scale illegal bunkering at an average of at least 250bpd for about 9 years now and the government claims to know nothing about it. What interests me the most is that the combined forces could not adequately secure the pipelines that former/present militants had to be given to charge to secure Nigeria's pipelines. Currently, the former Niger Delta warlord and commander of the defunct Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo is the one in charge of managing the security of Nigeria's crude oil pipelines and has even tried to employ members of a pro-Biafra group, Biafra Nations League (BnL) to guard the oil pipelines. I guess that explains why the we have stupendous billionaires in government circles. Are you aware that the President who doubles as the Minister for Petroleum for the past seven years is not aware of the illegal bunkering activities? Indeed government doesn't know about it but Government (Tompolo) knows about it.
So if past militants can be given contracts to secure areas they have once terrorized, why not secessionists like Nnamdi Kanu? Last week he was discharged by the Court of Appeal. Discharged but not acquitted. whatever that means, but perhaps he should be released and possibly given a contract to ensure that economic activities run in full swing in the southeast especially on Mondays. I believe that can be negotiated since some people are of the opinion that every activist has a price tag.
Well, that may not be Buhari's decision to make considering the fact that he has a few months left in office. I think it would be easier for Peter Obi to make that decision since former President Olusegun Obasanjo informally held his hand. Obasanjo was spotted offering his seat to Peter Obi during an event to celebrate a national award given to the President of the African Export-Import Bank Prof. Benedict Oramah. Obasanjo has a knack, or political dexterity, for choosing successive Presidents after him but most of them turn out to disappoint him.
As mentioned earlier, OBJ and PO were at an event to celebrate Prof. Benedict Oramah's national award. Prof. Benedict Oramah was one of the 447 persons that were bestowed national awards by President Buhari on Tuesday last week. The awards, in different categories, were for distinguished service to Nigeria as whole. However, some people were surprised that personalities like Rotimi Amaechi and Chris Ngige were conspicuously missing from the long list even after after their dogged service to Buhari's government while Mallam Adamu Adamu, Minister for Education, made it to the list much to the disappointment of Nigerian students. I learned that like Chinua Achebe and Late Gani Fawehinmi, Chimamanda Adichie secretly rejected the national awards. At the ceremony, Teni's manner of receiving the award was singled out for discourse and it boiled down to cultural perspectives of respect. In any case, if she was actually protesting against the government, as some suggest, then should should have simply declined the award.
Finally, ASUU has agreed to suspend her eight-month-old strike. If all goes well, today should be her members' second day at work. But it appears many of the students had already conditioned their minds to stay at home till December. After all, a rotten situation could be turned into a bad one 😂. That's by the way, but a number of female students had found their soulmates during the long strike and some have even gotten married to them and others are still planning. While some are still thinking of their fate with married men, former Nigerian singer cum Pastor, Soul E, has come to assure them that they could find their soulmates in married men. Is that MoG after the conversation of souls for Christ or conversion of souls for soulmates?
See you next week!
