A U.S. district court judge in Brooklyn sentenced R. Kelly to 30 years in prison Wednesday. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering and eight counts of violations of the Mann Act, a sex trafficking law, in 2021. Though the R&B singer has faced allegations of sexual misconduct, outrage grew after the 2019 docuseries ’Surviving R. Kelly’ allowed his accusers to speak candidly about their experience. Kelly has been in jail since his arrest in 2019. He faces child pornography and obstruction of justice charges in Chicago.

Immediate past Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday emerged All Progressives' Congress (APC), candidate for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District. The governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has mourned the lives lost in the attack on a Catholic church in his hometown of Owo, on Sunday. The St. Francis Catholic Church was on Sunday attacked with over 40 persons feared dead and others injured. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has been accused of travelling out of the country whenever there is a problem. This accusation was made by former Kaduna lawmaker, Sani Shehu, on Twitter on Saturday. Shehu tweeted, "Whenever there’s a problem, the President is used to travelling only to come back and meet it solved. "This one, he went to Dubai, Spain and now Ghana and yet the problem is still waiting for him to solve."
