TUESDAY CORNER (083)

It seems the bandits are back to the highways again as massive kidnappings occured on Abuja/Kaduna highway. No one knows how many people have been kidnapped and the road has become a desert of its own. Recall that in March 2021, the federal government approved the release of 809.7 billion naira for rehabilitation of Abuja/Kaduna/Kano expressway. Why is the government spending so much for a road that will be managed by bandits?

And lest we say the security personnel aren't doing anything, let it be known that the police arrested 4 Bandits and rescued 40 cows and 15 sheep in Bosso LGA of Niger State. In the same Niger, there are bandit-controlled territories where bandits manage the security and economy. Are we not sitting on a keg of gunpowder?

In case you expected rage from Arewa youths,  be disappointed to know that the  leader of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima has said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu should not be released. He added that the atrocities of Kanu outweigh that of Bandits, Boko Haram and Abacha combined. e choke! No, it is not the bandit who needs rehabilitation, it is the northern youth, starting from Yerima Shettima.

In the midst of the economic hardship this generation of Nigerians has ever faced, FG announced plans to remove subsidy of 1.8 trillion  and replace it with 5,000 to 40 million Nigerians for a year which amounts to 2.4 trillion. You see why we should all be standing upsidedown? There is no better way to understand Nigeria. How many times will subsidy be removed from Nigeria's budget? I think it's time GEJ received a formal apology from Nigeria over the 2012 massive protests. Pictures are there, those at the forefront like Buhari, El-Rufai, Bakare, Melaye, Tinubu, Soyinka and all should lead the delegation for the apology. As for the 5k transport subsidy for the poor, how will they identify them? Scam detected on day one of 99 days.

Jos Prison break on Sunday, 28th November. 262 escaped. 12 recaptured. 9 dead (8 inmates & 1 officer). The Pauls and Silases remained in their cells. The more you see the less you understand. Over three prisons breaks across Nigeria this year alone. This means that Nigeria's insecurity will further worsen. How those bandits got into the building and then escaped still beats my imagination. Will this abracadabra be resolved soon?

U.S Museum returned looted Benin, Ife artifacts to Nigeria. Why? I think there should have been a negotiation such that Nigeria will just be receiving royalties from the U.S Museum, where the artifacts will be safe and enjoy more visitors. Here, they risk being relooted and visits to museums is a stale activity in the Nigeria of today.

Sheikh Gumi took medical services to Bandits in Kogi State. Yes, they do need medical attention. How else will they get the energy launch attacks and do kidnapping? In the meantime, Northern elders advised Buhari against proscribing bandits as terrorists. Meaning that the  bandits in Zamfara who told Christians in Zamfara to close churches or risk attacks should not be called terrorists. Who then is a terrorist?

They are not terrorists when the attack villages, kill and maim? Friday 26th November, 2021, in the early hours of the morning, bandits attacked a village in Bassa and killed people including women and children. No arrest has been made so far. The Governor was very far away in Jos else he would have come to the new Speaker's constituency to commiserate with the people. 10 die any everything seems normal. Are we normal?

See you next week!

2023: Catholics Berate Lalong Over Attempt To Drag Pope Into Politics

August 11, 2022  Concerned Catholics in Nigeria have called for the suspension of Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong for dragging the name of Pope into local politics that has nothing to do with the Church. According to the group, Lalong should be punished for bringing the name of Pope and the Catholic Church to disrepute while giving his reasons for accepting to serve as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. Speaking as a press conference in Abuja addressed by National Convener/President, Dr Ben Amodu, said the concerned Catholics in Nigeria are alarmed that Lalong would elect to throw caution into the wind by dragging the revered Catholic Church into local politics in Nigeria for whatever it is worth. “The reference to the Pope in his statement for accepting to serve as the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council was made in poor taste and a puerile attempt to drag the Catholic Church into a matter that has no bearing with the
