Interns of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) are currently protesting non-payment of their 11 months salaries.
Earlier, ahead of the planned peaceful demonstration, the Cross River State Police Command had invited leaders of the interns with the aim of intimidating and discouraging them from proceeding with the peaceful protest.
CrossRiverWatch reports that the interns were suspended by the management of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) since August 2 for demanding the payment of their 11 months salaries which is over N480 million.
They were later sacked for demanding the payment of their 11 months salary. Authorities of the hospital claimed that demand for their salaries “embarrassed the management.”
