BREAKING NEWS: HON. ROSE KWAPREP OF SHENDAM LGC BECOMES FIRST FEMALE LEGISLATIVE LEADER IN PLATEAU STATE

Yesterday, Thursday 14th October, 2021 history was made on the Plateau during the inauguration of the newly elected Council Legislators in Shendam LGC.

Honourable Rose Kwaprep, a female Councilor representing Zemsuk Ward in Shendam Local Government Legislative Arm emerge as Legislative Leader after a due democratic in-house election of Principal Officers of the legislators.
Honourable Rose, elected for the second time as Councilor during Lalong's APC administration polled 13 votes in a keenly contested election to defeat her opponent, the incumbent Leader, Honourable Marcellanus Thomas of Panwasa Ward who got 7 votes.

This victory makes her the first female Local Government Council Legislative Leader in Plateau State and one of the few to have grace the seat in Nigeria.
Her unprecedented success is a good feat for the progress of democracy in Nigeria and Africa at large where female participation in politics is usually very low. Certain cultures and religions also discriminate the female gender from active participation in politics and decision making in the society.

For the moment, this is a time rejoice.
