TUESDAY CORNER BY BIZUUM YADOK.... ASSAULT ON FEMALE CORP MEMBER.

It is now official: Nigerians, especially NYSC NYSC members need to determine their ransom plugs before embarking on journeys that would traverse certain routes in Nigeria. This information was passed across via a document on security tips that was distributed to corpse members at NYSC camps in Ebonyi, Taraba and some other States. It should also be stated that the leadership of NYSC has since denied distribution of the material, but indeed it was circulated at NYSC camps, which could mean that it was the handiwork of some opportunistic NYSC officials or that a "security-expert" landed himself a contract to provide a material in line with the present reality of Nigeria's security situation. While we admit that Kidnapping is a reality, we must not admit that it has come to stay like Covid-19 as the document suggests and even if such admission is to be made, it would be better to get such information from Sheikh Gumi instead of NYSC itself. Talking about NYSC,
a Military Officer serving in the 13th Brigade Command of the Nigeria Army in Calabar, Lt. Chika Viola Anele, was caught on camera manhandling a female youth Corp member by name Ezeiruaku Ifenyinwa Fidelia. Not much is known about the cause but, of course, such a dehumanizing act is totally condemnable. I am pretty sure the narrative would have read differently if the manhandling was done by a man it would have been viewed from a sexist lens. Nonetheless, it is expected that a sister will always stand up for a sister being that they belong to the same oppressed gender, or at least they could disagree without Viola being violent. Another news has it that Chika has been arrested and stripped of her rank. for all we know, the army has its own sense of brotherhood and so we could guess that this matter would die a natural death.

While some soldiers dehumanized civilians, elsewhere, soldiers were casualties of attacks. Just last week some soldiers were ambushed by ISWAP terrorists along Dikwa Marte road in Borno State, leaving 8 soldiers dead and others missing. Three of the military vehicles in the convoy were burnt down and two were made away with. Recall that last month or so, over 3,000 members of Boko Haram had given up the destructive enterprise yet the ambush on soldiers last week was a second incidence in a span of two weeks. This could mean that members of Boko Haram gave up more because of ISWAP's dominance than N.A's onslaught. It also means that there is more work to be done in the north east especially in Borno lest terrorism survives it's second decade in Nigeria.

President Buhari came under fire of the opposition for making light our security plight at the UN General Assembly last week in New York. But, you see, every husband would like to give himself a sense of responsibility to the outside world even if at the detriment of his wife and children. By the way, which President comes to the General Assembly with his dirty linens in hand? Therefore, when one hears exaggerated tales being told for his country at the UNGA, he grudgingly understands. That he was able to stand and deliver his speech and also participate meaningfully in the dialogues was an achievement for Nigeria's President, in my opinion. Other matters could be settled at home.

And, unlike Midas touch, it was said that everything Buhari touches disappears. So it was discovered that he touched Nigerian-born British Boxer's belts and fiam! The belts disappeared in Anthony Joshua's fight with Oleksandr Usyk. That's according to the gospel of Reno Omokri. Other trivial analysts put the blame on DJ Cuppy. Actually Anthony Joshua had all it took to win the match but he lost about £15m after his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday night. I am sure Anthony Joshua would reclaim his title, but going forward he must work harder at sustaining his title.

Guess who is back to Nigeria? The Jagaban himself! Will he still continue his fight to become Nigeria's President or just focus on his health? only time will tell.

See you next week!

2023: Catholics Berate Lalong Over Attempt To Drag Pope Into Politics

August 11, 2022  Concerned Catholics in Nigeria have called for the suspension of Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong for dragging the name of Pope into local politics that has nothing to do with the Church. According to the group, Lalong should be punished for bringing the name of Pope and the Catholic Church to disrepute while giving his reasons for accepting to serve as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. Speaking as a press conference in Abuja addressed by National Convener/President, Dr Ben Amodu, said the concerned Catholics in Nigeria are alarmed that Lalong would elect to throw caution into the wind by dragging the revered Catholic Church into local politics in Nigeria for whatever it is worth. “The reference to the Pope in his statement for accepting to serve as the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council was made in poor taste and a puerile attempt to drag the Catholic Church into a matter that has no bearing with the
