Independence Day: Banks In South-East Comply With IPOB Directive, Bring Down Nigerian Flags*

Commercial banks in the South-East region of Nigeria have started bringing down the Nigerian flag from their poles, * Photos *: This comes a few days after the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) urged its members to remove all Nigerian flags mounted in "Biafra land." The group had also declared another sit-at-home on October 1, 2021, when Nigeria will be celebrating its 61st Independence anniversary. Meanwhile, sources in the region told SaharaReporters that even though IPOB had directed that banks should be left alone, the financial institutions themselves have started bringing down their Nigerian flags over fear of attacks. A source in Enugu told SaharaReporters that Access Bank at Holy Ghost Junction in Enugu, the state capital has brought down all the flags on the poles on its premises, including the Nigerian flag. He said, “Access Bank at Holy Ghost junction, the old park has brought down the flags. There's nothing on the poles anymore.” Another res

Her books are described by her publisher as turning ‘all our moral and ethical considerations upside down.’ The Hell in Gabriel’s Lust, Caballol’s most recent book, promises ‘prisons, psychopathy, sects, sadism, madness, lust and, little by little, as the story progresses… the unreality of im

A 28-year-old woman, Toriola Suliat has told her husband, Toriola Lateef, that she would only consent to his request for the dissolution of their marriage if he returns her virginity and good health, as she was two years ago before the union. Suliat stated her conditions before an Iseyin Grade C Customary Court, where the husband had gone seeking for the dissolution of the marriage over “frequent public embarrassment.” He told the Court that Suliat was in the habit of harassing him at his work place and social functions attended by his friends and relatives. The husband said he had to move out of their matrimonial home due to the unbearable development. Responding, Suliat said she was charmed by Toriola before she agreed to marry him. “Ideally I will not marry this type of human being, if not for the charm he used on me. “I was looking for charm to help my business grow and he told me that he will need to get some hairs from my private part and also make love to me, that was how I foun

ANOTHER NIGHT AT THE PORT...

Another night at the Port , when the sea cradles me  And the pale star gleam  Lies down on its broad waves,  Then I free myself wholly  From all activity and all the love  And stand silent and breathe purely,  Alone, alone cradled by the sea  That lies there, cold and silent, with a thousand lights.  Then I have to think of my family and friends at home And my gaze sinks into their gazes  And I ask each one, silent, alone:  "Are you still mine" Then I hear my son David says, I miss u daddy and my wife says good night honey...  Do you feel from my love, my grief,  Just a breath, just an echo?"  And the sea peacefully gazes back, silent,  And smiles: no one is here And no greeting and no answer comes from anywhere ouch!!! It was an imagination. Back to work sailor and continue your rounds.... This is an Abstract from my book. TALES THE TIDE NEVER TOLD CHARLES DAVID LAPMOEN

TUESDAY CORNER BY BIZUUM YADOK.... ASSAULT ON FEMALE CORP MEMBER.

It is now official: Nigerians, especially NYSC NYSC members need to determine their ransom plugs before embarking on journeys that would traverse certain routes in Nigeria. This information was passed across via a document on security tips that was distributed to corpse members at NYSC camps in Ebonyi, Taraba and some other States. It should also be stated that the leadership of NYSC has since denied distribution of the material, but indeed it was circulated at NYSC camps, which could mean that it was the handiwork of some opportunistic NYSC officials or that a "security-expert" landed himself a contract to provide a material in line with the present reality of Nigeria's security situation. While we admit that Kidnapping is a reality, we must not admit that it has come to stay like Covid-19 as the document suggests and even if such admission is to be made, it would be better to get such information from Sheikh Gumi instead of NYSC itself. Talking about NYSC,

THE STORM IS OVER CROONER SENTENCED..... R KELLY

A New York jury on Monday found R&B singer R. Kelly guilty on all charges in his trial on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, could face decades in prison. Kelly, 54, was accused by multiple witnesses of targeting, grooming and exploiting young women and men "for his own sexual gratification" and running a "sex cult" by trafficking people across state lines. He also allegedly bribed a government worker to help him marry late R&B singer Aaliyah when she was 15 years old.  Today's verdict brings an end to Robert Kelly's decade-long reign of terror over many vulnerable girls, boys and young women," Pete Fitzhugh, Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security investigations in New York, said Monday after the verdict was announced. "With this verdict, it is my sincere hope that it will also begin the healing process for these brave survivors.

Northern governors Forum reject rotation of presidency, back federal government on VAT

The northern governors condemn the position of their southern counterparts on the two issues orthern governors reject rotation of presidency, back federal government on VAT The northern governors condemn the position of their southern counterparts on the two issues. Governors of Nigeria’s northern states have rejected the principle of rotational presidency, saying it is against the constitution of the country. The governors also opposed the position of their southern counterparts on Value Added Tax (VAT). They stated this after a meeting of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Monday in Kaduna. The chairman of the forum, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, issued a statement on the outcome of the meeting. He said “some Northern States Governors had earlier expressed views for a power-shift to the three geo-political zones in the South with a view to promoting unity and peace in the nation. “Notwithstanding their comments, the Forum unanimously condemn the statement by th

ANJA AND THE WITCH TRIAL

This movie scene is from the documentary ”Anja & the Witch Trial” that aired on National Geographic and DR2 in 2019 and from when David, I and our team were called out to a rural area to look into a case where 3 young boys had been accused of being witches.  It was the day we rescued Benjamin, Daniel and Gideon.  Benjamin´s grandfather accused Benjamin, Daniel and Gideon of being witches because his foot was swollen (from an infection ) but he claimed that the boys during the night would bring rats from the witch craft coven to eat from his foot.  Such wild and crazy allegations are due to not only ignorance but also extreme poverty and thereby lack of education.  Remember that witchcraft accusations is not an African “thing”. In 1572 the killings of innocent women, men and children began in Europe with Germany as the witch burning capital of the world.  To be superstitious is not a crime because we all have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. But

Why Appeal Court barred VIO from demanding private vehicles’ roadworthiness certificate — Lawyer

A former Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Kunle Edun, tells  TOBI AWORINDE  how he defeated the Vehicle Inspection Office up to the Court of Appeal in a suit challenging the agency’s demand for roadworthiness from private vehicle owners You  recently secured a court judgment against the Vehicle Inspection Office in respect of roadworthiness certificate. Can you tell us about it? Sometime in 2014, I had cause to be driving along a major road in Ughelli (Delta State), where I wanted to inspect a piece of land, which a client of mine wanted to purchase. Along the road, I came across some kind of obstructions put on the road by some persons purporting to be Vehicle Inspection Officers. They stopped me and I identified myself. They demanded my vehicle’s roadworthiness certificate, and I told them, ‘Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean by that. As a matter of fact, I don’t have it, so should you clear the way for me to pass?’ They were stopping other vehicles for t

GLORY RAIN DEVOTIONALSeptember 27

GLORY RAIN DEVOTIONAL September 27 Theme: Joy is a Choice. Habakkuk 3:17-18 "Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls -Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation” Joy is not a feeling. It is a spiritual force active in the heart of the believer. It is not predicated on the happenings around us. It is constant in all seasons. It is the strength of the believer. Sadness and sorrow is a focus on self. But Joy is a focus on God! Joy stems from a working knowledge that God can never fail.  To live in this realm you must be deliberate in stirring your emotions in the direction of God’s word. Do not let your emotions have a will of their own. Control them! Joy is a decision away from you.  When we learn to track our thoughts we would be able to arrest depressing thoughts and up
