GOVERNOR LALONG CONGRATULATES WINNERS OF PANKSHIN SOUTH STATE CONSTITUENCY & BASSA/JOS NORTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY BYE-ELECTIONS  Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated winners of the just concluded bye-elections for Pankshin South State Constituency, and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency held on Saturday 26th February 2020.  Governor Lalong congratulated Chief Ezra Dakup of the APC who was declared winner of the Pankshin South State Constituency bye-election as well as Hon. Russia has assured the Federal Government that Nigerians are not targeted in the ongoing cr!sis between them and Ukraine. The Ambassador of Russia, Alexei Shebarshin, said this in Abuja, on Friday, February 26, at a meeting with Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs. The minister had summoned Shebarshin and the envoy of Ukraine, Kirdoda Valerii, following the escalating vi#lence triggered by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on Thursday. Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Onyeama said that during his parley with the Russian envoy, he expressed the displeasure of the Nigerian government over the vio#lation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, a United Nations (UN) member state, and country with which Nigeria has diplomatic relations. Russia Expect Peace Talks

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that if Ukraine's military surrendered, Moscow would be willing to discuss, claiming that invading forces were seeking to liberate the nation from "oppression." Russian President Vladimir Putin “decided to conduct a special military operation to demilitarise and de-Nazify Ukraine so that, freed from oppression, Ukrainians themselves could freely determine their future”, Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow. If the Ukrainian army surrenders, Lavrov added, Moscow is ready to negotiate to Kyiv. “We are ready for negotiations at any moment, as soon as the armed forces of Ukraine respond to our call and lay down their arms,” Lavrov said. Fire Guts Federal Ministry Of Finance, Abuja

An early morning fire on Wednesday razed parts of a building at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). However, it is not clear if the fire incident affected the main building of the Federal Ministry of Finance. At the time of filing this report, the fire was still raging with no men of the federal fire service on ground. The Federal Ministry of Finance building is located in the Central Business District of Abuja.

Funeral Cancelled As Family Discovered Deceased's Penis Removed

A South African family, The Tjales called off the funeral of their son, Mpho, after it was discovered that his penis was missing. According to Daily Sun SA, the parents of the deceased, Portia and Bellium Tjale had gone to wash his body when they discovered the missing part. The family from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, refused to take the disfigured body. Portia said, "My son’s body was collected from home with every body part intact, but some parts are now missing. Why is that?”  She said her son's body was collected by a funeral home the day he died but they had no cold storage, thus transferring the body to another where the body part went missing.  Police has since opened an investigation into a case of violation of the corpse. Why China stopped giving Nigeria loans — Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, has disclosed why China stopped giving Nigeria loans facility.  Speaking in an interview with DailyTrust on Monday, February 21, the minister said, “When we started, we found the Chinese government more willing and their terms were much more acceptable and the speed with which the loans were completed and the speed with which we started working. Unfortunately, along the line, I can remember the Minister of Transportation complaining that the entire world takes its cue from what Nigerians say about their government.  The issue of reports that the government will soon go bankrupt, I think made them stop. Yes, we’re not getting the loans again as we would have wanted.”
