Comedian Chris Rock declines offer to host 2023 Oscars

American comedian, Chris Rock, has reportedly turned down the offer from the Academy to host the 2023 Oscars for the third time. According to the 57-year-old comedian, returning to host the show would be like returning to the crime scene. Rock revealed this during a standup show over the weekend in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. According to Newyork Post, during the show, Rock reportedly compared accepting the hosting gig to returning to the scene of a crime, referencing the murder of OJ Simpson’s late wife, saying that accepting the offer would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.” His rejected hosting duties would’ve come a year after Hollywood actor Will Smith walked on stage on March 27 and slapped him at the Academy Awards for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, about looking like “G.I. Jane” because of her bald head. Credit: Newyork Post

PRESS RELEASE BY CONCERNED ELDERS OF PLATEAU ON THE DESPERATION OF GOV. Coincidentally, this sad event took place when the incumbent Governor was then the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, during the Governor J. C. Dariye's Administration. This property has been further demolished by the present Government using a whopping over N1 billion in a bid said to be preparing it for reconstruction. It is important at this point to remember the history of the JMM. It is a project of the Founding Fathers and past Governors of Plateau State: J. D Gomwalk, S. D. Lar (both of blessed memory) and S. B. Atukum who is not only alive, but has had cause to

Beautiful Art teacher under fire for voluptuous curves as parents accuse her of being a distraction.

A New Jersey art teacher is receiving heat from parents at a preschool where she teaches.  Her voluptuous curves and body figure-hugging dresses is the bone of contention as parents said the curves are a distraction for their children.  The teacher, who regularly shares photos of herself in class or engaging in other fun activities outside school on Instagram had some parents calling for her to be fired while others say she should just wear clothes that hide her curves.  Unfortunately for those parents, under both New Jersey and Federal Labor law, it would be illegal for a school to fire a teacher based on their physical appearance, which is the probable reasons why there hasn't been any action taken against the supposed complaints with regards to the curvy woman’s looks.

“We will do anything within our power to ensure the Jos Main Market is back to use” -JNI, Plateau State Chapter

The Jama'atu Nasril Islam, Plateau State Chapter, under the leadership of His Royal Highness the Emir of Wase, Dr. Muhammad Sambo Haruna, has been watching with keen interest the imbroglio surrounding the planned reconstruction of the Jos Main Market burnt down and abandoned since February 2002. We watched and read every single views and utterances regarding the matter and we found some views not just disgusting, but highly inflatable and provocative to every single Muslim in the state and affront to Islam.  While we initially viewed the issue as purely a governmental affair, knowing fully well that the government of Barrister Simon Bako Lalong made the reconstruction of the abandoned deliberately burnt Jos Main Market as part of its campaign promises, which essentially made majority of Muslims in the state to vote for him in 2015 and 2019. We thought every single citizen in the state will welcome the idea of the reconstruction of the market which used to serve as a gre

Recap of Peter Obi's Speech at NBA Conference

It was a distinct honour and privilege to address the Nigerian Bar Association at their Annual General Conference yesterday. The warm reception was gratifying and deeply appreciated. To recap what I said, Nigeria needs true, visionary and diligent leadership to transit from its present state of failure and stagnation to growth and development. Now that our nation is exhibiting the characteristics of a fragile and failed state, we must re-evaluate our leadership selection process to ensure that only diligent and committed leaders are voted into power, so that we can begin to rescue this nation urgently. We must strive for a leadership imbued with competence, capacity, credibility and commitment. I maintain that the elections in 2023 will go beyond connections, tribe or religion, but center on competence, character and commitment to deliver on the dividends of true democracy. #PeterObi 🇳🇬

Kenya's Odinga Goes To Court As He Challenges Election Result

Kenya’s defeated presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, filed a petition to the country’s top court on Monday challenging the result of the August 9 election that handed victory to his rival, William Ruto. Odinga, a veteran opposition leader who ran with the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ruling party, has rejected the outcome of the poll, branding it a “travesty.” He narrowly lost to Ruto by around 230,000 votes – less than two percentage points. The 77-year-old politician filed a physical copy of the petition with barely an hour to go before the court’s 2 pm (1100 GMT) deadline for accepting the case. An online copy was filed earlier in the day, according to a member of his legal team. Hundreds of supporters cheered as dozens of boxes of evidence were unloaded from a truck outside the court. “We have hopes that we have made a good case and will win,” Daniel Maanzo, a member of Odinga’s legal team, told AFP. Although polling day passed off p

Strike: Sue ASUU and get compensated — Minister of education, Adamu tells students

The Minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has asked students affected by the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to sue the union. Recall that the union, which has been on strike since February 14, is demanding for the full implementation of the 2009 agreement it signed with the Federal Government, among others. At a briefing held in Abuja, on Thursday, August 18, the minister was asked if the federal government has plans to compensate students affected by the industrial action. Responding to the question, Adamu said: “We are all hit by this strike action, perhaps because students have to spend an extra one year or two, you can say, they are worst hit. If you had the chance, or the capacity to measure the effect of that on the economy, the economy is also a victim, parents are also victims. It’s a loss for the nation. As far as I know, JAMB will administer examinations, students will use it to process admissions into universities, nothin

In a letter to the CBCN President entitled, ‘Letter of Apology’ which was dated August 12, 2022, Governor Lalong restated his commitment to the Catholic faith as he promised to continue upholding the banner of the Christian faith in public life. The letter reads: “I have followed with some shock and deep regret, the reactions that have trailed my appointment as the Director-General of the Campaign Council for the Presidential Candidates of our Party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Ibrahim Shettima. “The appointment, understandably was received with mixed reactions across the Christian community who genuinely feel aggrieved by the decision of our party to settle for a Muslim Muslim ticket." “While many people commended me for th

The U.S. Prosecutors in the Chicago federal case against the R & B global icon R. PAPAL KNIGHTS CONDEMN & DISOWN LALONG

My dear Sir Simon Lalong, Governor of Plateau State, I write to you as the National President of Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria, (APKMN), to express the disappointment of all Papal Honorees in Nigeria at a statement credited to you which would tend to bring the revered image and person of the Holy Father, the Pope into your Local Politics. Your action, to say the least, is not only disappointing but condemnable and not expected of a  Catholic and more so of a Papal Knight. The Holy father is a busy man and does not interact with individuals so easily as you will want Nigerians to believe. I have been mandated by all Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria who feel betrayed by your Statement to ask you to produce evidence of your claim or refute the statement credited to you.  An ardent Catholic and a Papal honoree at that, ought to know where and when to apply the break in discussing issues of the Church.     No true Catholic, no matter his/her position in the societ

August 11, 2022  Concerned Catholics in Nigeria have called for the suspension of Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong for dragging the name of Pope into local politics that has nothing to do with the Church. According to the group, Lalong should be punished for bringing the name of Pope and the Catholic Church to disrepute while giving his reasons for accepting to serve as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. Speaking as a press conference in Abuja addressed by National Convener/President, Dr Ben Amodu, said the concerned Catholics in Nigeria are alarmed that Lalong would elect to throw caution into the wind by dragging the revered Catholic Church into local politics in Nigeria for whatever it is worth. “The reference to the Pope in his statement for accepting to serve as the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council was made in poor taste and a puerile attempt to drag the Catholic Church into a matter that has no bearing with the
